Christ Redeemer: a view like no other
It’s from the top of Corcovado Mountain, 710 meters above
sea level, with its 360 degree panoramic view, that Rio de Janeiro
truly does justice to its nickname: “The Marvelous City”.
Under the outstretched arms of Christ the Redeemer, Rio has
a view like no other.
It’s impossible to imagine a ride around the city without
a visit to its main “post card” perfect attraction.
The concrete statue covered in soapstone makes an impression
with its beauty and colossal dimensions: it weighs 1,145 tons
and is 30 meters tall. At night it has its own special lighting.
How to get there
By train via Corcovado Railroad (Rua Cosme Velho, 513 –
Laranjeiras – phone: 2558-1329).
Trains leave every half hour from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
By car, van or bus. From the North Side, via Estrada das Paineiras.
From the South Side, via Cosme Velho (Ladeiras dos Guararapes
or Ascurra) and Santa Teresa (Rua Almirante Alexandrino). Buses
should park at the Praça do Pedágio and cars on
Paineiras.
From the top of Corcovado Mountain to the statue, there are
three panoramic elevators and four escalators. Another alternative
is a conventional 220 step staircase.
