Maracanã, stage for many emotions
It’s one of a kind - the world's largest. The greatest
Brazilian and World soccer stars have all played on its field:
“King” Pelé, Garrincha, Ronaldo “The
Phenomenon”, Beckenbauer, and many others. The fan clubs
put on a show of their own on the bleachers, showing their love
for the teams with their "war chants" and colorful
flags. Game day makes for a festive day in the city.
The stadium isn't just for “ball" shows. International
musical attractions like The Police, Frank Sinatra, Madonna,
The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Prince and Paul McCartney as
well as national idols like Roberto Carlos, Ivete Sangalo, Xuxa,
and Sandy and Junior have all put on shows here for over 100,000
people. The VIP Box has seated famous audience members like
Queen Elizabeth and Pope John Paul II.
Location and how to get there
Professor Eurico Rabelo Street, in Maracanã neighborhood,
near Tijuca, on the North Side of Rio. The Metrô system,
train and bus lines have stops on Avenida Radial Oeste in front
of the Stadium. Pedestrian bridges cross the Avenue.
Visitation
Guided and bilingual, including a panoramic view, an underground
corridor leading to the field, a VIP Box and bleachers, Sidewalk
of Fame and a historical photo exhibition. Daily, 9:00 a.m.
to 5 p.m. On game days, visitation ends four hours before the
