Três Picos, mountaineering paradise

The highlands crossing Rio de Janeiro state offer countless choices for hikes and sporting activities among their rocky formations. Yet another favorite for hikers and climbers is the Três Picos (Three Peaks) circuit in Nova Friburgo, a group of granitic mountains which reach up to 2,300 meters high - the highest points along the Serra do Mar mountain range.

The Three Peaks (Greater, Medium and Small) with the Pedra do Capacete (Helmet Rock) make for a post card perfect image, which gives you a panoramic view of all the Atlantic Forest’s magnificence. There’s no lack of adrenaline here: adventure abounds for those merely hiking the trails cutting through the Vale dos Deuses (Valley of the Gods) at the foot of the mountains, and for those who dare to climb the steep rock walls.

Location and how to get there
The Três Picos are located within the State Park carrying the same name. Access is via RJ-130 highway, which connects the cities of Teresópolis and Nova Friburgo. Close to Km marker 47, there are signs along the highway leading to the park entrance.
