From the Estação Central do Brasil (Brazilian Central Station) trains leave for Zona Oeste (West Side) and Baixada Fluminense (information: 0800 595 2000).

Ferries, catamarans and hydroplanes cross Guanabara Bay to the city of Niterói and the island of Paquetá. Regularly scheduled arrivals and Departures are listed at the Praça XV station, downtown (information: 4004-3113).

From the Novo Rio bus station, you can catch a bus to many different cities across the state of Rio de Janeiro, to the main capital cities of Brazil and other countries in South America, like Argentina, Paraguay and Chile.

In all, there are more than 220 bus lines, run by over 40 companies. On national holidays, like Christmas and New Year's Eve, the Novo Rio Bus Station bustles with over 400,000 people. More information at 3213-1800.
