Much history and European charm in Serra Verde Imperial
Sunny days invite you to take pleasant
trips to the exuberant mountain settings, punctuated by peaks
in a wide variety of shapes and large green areas of vegetation.
They can also inspire you to take long walks along trails full
of rivers, waterfalls and creeks, as well as practice the so
called “ecology sports”.
Cold nights are ideal for enjoying the fireplaces in cozy chalet
style hotels and inns. Or perhaps you’d like to warm up
in the highland restaurants, many of them sophisticated gastronomical
centers bearing a strong European influence. Day or night, Serra
Verde (Green Highlands) is one of a kind.
Petrópolis, one of the main tourist destinations, offers
visitors all of this as well as the possibility to get to know
part of Brazil's history, through the treasures of the Imperial
Museum and monuments like the Palácio de Cristal (Crystal
Palace). A visit to the suburbs of Itaipava, Araras and Corrêas
is also an excellent outing.
Nova Friburgo, with its suburbs of Muri and Lumiar, is another
important city in the region, characterized by its fine crafts
and landscapes including large flower farms and fruit orchards.
The highland circuit also includes Teresópolis, entryway
to the Serra dos Órgãos National Park and a paradise
for climbers.
