Ive been there once and only for 10 days. I dont know how it does it, but Rio is all-enveloping. Its an urban lifestyle with an undertow, a riptide. If youre a certain kind of person (and evidently I am), the city grabs you into its clutches and doesnt let you go easily. The primary adverse side-effect of my short stay was over-stimulation. What would be the danger of a lengthy internment in Rio? I shudder (and smile) to think.
