Day or night, many choices for fun and leisure
The city
of Rio de Janeiro has a large and diverse restaurant industry,
with restaurants offering many types of cuisine: from the most
exotic foods to the very simple, well seasoned traditional homemade
fare, as well as the more traditional and sophisticated dishes
from international cookbooks.
In the city’s bars, wine cellars and corner shops, you’ll
find flavors unique to Rio in the appetizers and drinks, often
with quirky names related to stories about the bar’s regulars.
These are places where friends meet, the source of inspiration
for many songs. They are laid back and also very busy, as much
during the day as by night.
Rio’s cultural scene is quite intense and occurs in a
large number of movie theaters, theaters, cultural centers and
venues for musical and other kinds of shows. People in the city
are extremely musical and there’s always a packed schedule
of Choro and Pagode music jam sessions, as well as Samba School
rehearsals.
There’s also no lack of options for those who enjoy the
bustle of night clubs and dance clubs, enlivened by rock, reggae,
pop, disco, funk and forró as well as any other rhythm
which happens to be in style. Rio de Janeiro’s beaches
often stage large events and music concerts by national and
international attractions.
Those who prefer more intimate shows and places to listen to
music or couple dancing can go to bars where they only listen
to popular Brazilian music (MPB) and bossa nova. Or visit the
many lounges, clubs and popular dance halls. In Rio there’s
fun for all tastes, styles and age groups. The festive spirit
lasts year round.
