Tips to take full advantage of your trip
Tourists
coming to Rio de Janeiro in summer should wear light, cool clothing.
In winter, long pants and light jackets are warm enough for
the capital and coastal regions. Those who travel to the highlands
need to wear heavier clothes, or even wool.
In summer, it's better to eat lighter foods and drink lots of
water and fruit juice. It’s important to remember that
tap water in Brazil is not fit for drinking purposes. Drink
filtered or bottled water.
Wearing sun block is recommended year round. When visiting gardens,
ecological parks or forest nature reserves, it’s also
important to use insect repellent.
The majority of hotels offer 24 hour health assistance or lists
of recommended local health services. Before taking off, it’s
a good idea to see if your health and life insurance cover health
care outside your country.
As with all large international urban centers, tourists should
be well informed about the places they would like to visit.
Avoid walking around with jewelry and audio and video equipment,
especially on the beach. Hotels usually have safes to safeguard
money and other valuable objects.
It’s also good policy to carry a list of useful phone
numbers, like those of the hotel, embassy or consulate, and
in-country personal or professional contact numbers. It’s
also good to make a copy of your most important documents, like
your passport, and leave them in the hotel safe in case you
lose your originals.
